Is it possible to to exclude #file

Harry Putnam
Can anyone tell me how to exclude a file that begins or ends with an
octothorp (`#')?

Something like #file or file#

  But not fi#le

I've tried these in an exclude file:

"#"*
*"#"
\#*
*\#

All seem to just be ignored
